Overview
Studious is an AI course memory app for students, built and operated in Canada. This policy explains what information we collect when you use Studious, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address, name, and authentication details.
Class materials. Anything you record, upload, or paste into Studious — including audio, transcripts, slides, notes, and documents — is stored so we can generate Class Notes, Course Memory, and Exam Prep for you.
Usage data. We collect basic usage information (pages visited, features used, device and browser type) to understand how the product is performing and to improve it.
How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Generate Class Notes, Course Memory, and Exam Prep from your materials.
- Authenticate your account and keep it secure.
- Provide customer support.
- Improve the product, fix bugs, and develop new features.
- Send important account and service updates.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your class materials to train third-party AI models for unrelated purposes.
Recording and consent
Studious is designed to be used only where recording is permitted. You are responsible for making sure you have permission from your professor, school, and any other relevant parties before recording a class.
If you upload materials you did not create (slides, handouts, transcripts), you are responsible for confirming you have the right to upload them.
Storage and security
Your data is stored on reputable cloud infrastructure. We use industry-standard practices including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever experience a data incident that affects you, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by Canadian law.
Data retention and deletion
You can delete individual classes, courses, and uploaded materials from within Studious at any time. You can also delete your entire account, which removes your personal information and class materials from our active systems.
Backups and logs may persist for a limited time before being purged on our regular retention schedule.
Your rights
Consistent with Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) and provincial privacy laws, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct information that is inaccurate.
- Delete your account and associated data.
- Withdraw consent for optional uses of your information.
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@studious.ca.
Children
Studious is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. We are currently focused on college and university students, and are building toward older high-school use with the right permission and support model for parents, tutors, and teachers.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated version here and update the "Last updated" date. Significant changes may also be communicated by email.
